Friendly Manitoba – Media Mentions

Manitoba has been kind to the riders since they arrived on Monday.

Brandon’s Star FM (94.7 FM) kindly covered the ride throughout their afternoon show as they approached Minnedosa  (Tuesday May 28). Whilst their sister station, CKLQ (880 AM) did a news report both online and on air.

That same day, Sarah from the weekly Minnedosa Tribune spoke to the team. If anyone is in the Minnedosa area and can share the article, we’d love to see it!

Today (Thursday May 30), Bill continued his weekly check-ins with Edmonton campus station, CJSR. You can listen to that interview below, or catch up with the series of  interviews.

Media exposure to the ride continues:

“The ride is to raise awareness and encourage conversation about depression, suicide and other mental health issues.

Werthmann is ecstatic with the response so far, and says the highlight is the people he’s been touched by emotionally.”

Bill Werthmann also continued his weekly correspondence with Edmonton’s campus radio station, CJSR this morning (Thursday). You can take a listen to that here:

Thanks for covering the ride and helping us get our message out to Canadians. Little by little we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.

As the riders rolled into Alberta on Saturday (May 18), Chris Davis from The Pincher Creek Voice tracked them down, and had a brief chat to a couple of the riders.

“‘For the most part it’s about reaching people, and hearing the stories that they’ve got to tell.  How mental health has affected them, and their families,’ Bill explained during a respite at Pincher Station.”

Hillary’s Ride on Breakfast TV Edmonton – Wednesday 17 April 2013

BT Edmonton host, Ryan Jespersen, talks to “inspiring Edmontonian” and Hillary’s father, Bill Werthmann, in this video clip from Wednesday 17 April 2013 on City (TV).

Bill explains how depression can happen to anybody, and why it’s so important we talk about it and reduce the stigma around those who are afflicted with mental health issues.

The trails of bicycle touring

Under the magnitude of the goal to increase awareness of mental health issues and to talk about suicide prevention, the other components of the ride can be pushed out of mind.

The training is one such component, and last week Bill was invited on to Edmonton’s Bicycle Traffic Report on CJSR to talk about the preparation he is physically making to ensure the team can ride across the country.

You can listen to that interview here:

Bill appears on Edmonton’s campus station, CJSR

Bill was interviewed this morning on Edmonton’s campus community station, CJSR, by Thursday morning host, Peter Chapman.

They discussed what the ride was all about, before getting into talking about Friday (26 Aug) night’s fundraiser at the Blue Chair Cafe.
