Throughout the ride, Bill Werthmann, Hillary’s father, regularly phoned into Edmonton’s campus radio station, CJSR.
To wrap up the series of interviews, Bill went into the CJSR studio this morning to talk about the success of the ride and to play a tune live. “Stuff That Hurts,” originally by Guy Clark, was a tune that resonated with Bill for the entire ride, and you can hear Bill’s live version of the tune midway through this interview:
Hi Billy, It was so nice to see you after all these years. We were both much younger back in 1969 Eh! As I began to visit your Web Site and to hear your reason for Hillarys Ride, I was so impressed with the way you handled interviews along the way. Having 2 children and 3 grandson,I can’t even begin to imagine the pain of loosing one. I admire your commitment to undertake such a tremendous journey to honor your daughter,Hillary, she was a beautiful young lady. I hope our paths cross again someday. I have all the individual pictures of your 69/70 homeroom, if you ever feel the desire to revisit those days? I taught for 34 years and the 1st 5 years at Kingsclear Consolation were my most memorable. Wilfred( Mr.Holmes) back then.
